BREAKING NEWS! 14 October 2008
We are pleased to announce The AADC Research Trust has agreed to vital funding for Netherlands Research Project entitled:
‘In Search of an Explanation for Renal Dopamine Synthesis in AADC Deficiency’
The aim of the study is:
To identify (a) potential metabolic pathway(s) or enzyme(s) responsible for dopamine synthesis in the kidney of AADC deficient patients, in order to find new entries for therapeutic strategies for AADC deficiency.
Relevance to AADC research and patients with AADC deficiency
Identification of alternative molecular pathways for dopamine synthesis, different from that mediated by AADC, will reveal a potential therapeutic target for patients with a deficient AADC enzyme activity.
Principal investigators: Dr. Marcel M. Verbeek, Dr. Michèl A.A.P. Willemsen.
Key personnel: Prof. Dr. Ron A. Wevers, ing. Ben Geurtz, Drs. Martijn Wilmer, Prof. Dr. M. Lammens
The AADC Research Trust confirms its commitment to fully fund the above project to be carried out at:
Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour Department of Neurology Laboratory of Pediatrics and Neurology Department of Pediatric Neurology Department of Pathology Nijmegen, Netherlands
Total cost of the project = €32,000 (approx £26,500)
