As we end 2009 we continue our global efforts into 2010 and beyond... 11 January 2010
Our first message of the New Year must of course be a huge vote of thanks to all our loyal supporters! You have truly surpassed yourselves during the past twelve months of 2009 offering your amazing help and generosity from an inspired variety of activities, and so substantially topping up the very necessary funding pot made available for research and equipment for our AADC children worldwide. Some wonderful examples are as follows:
Allan and Vivian, parents to Nathan (AADC) in Australia, with the help of close family friend Shereen Ong (who is also Nathan’s Occupational Therapist) held their own fundraising event in Australia called ‘The Ultimate Fun-Raiser: Game On,’ Games Night! This fantastic evening pulled in a 250 strong crowd of supporters and raised an incredible £8,800.
We would also like to dearly thank Nathan’s grandmother in Malaysia who with the help of family and friends raised a further fantastic £9400RM.
Many congratulations to Nathan’s family on a terrific year of fundraising!
Sam and Diane Allen, parents to Marcus (AADC) in UK, with friends, took part in the Ireland Fun Run and raised an amazing £4455.00.
Also Sam and Diane are doing a grand job of encouraging other fundraisers and have managed to gain the huge support of...
Air New Zealand - £1,200.00
The Greer Family and the Westbourne Glantoran Supporters Club - £870
Lisa Hudson and the Body Matrix - £200
Many congratulations Sam and Diane on a great year of fundraising!
Graham and Janette Brooker an enormous and special thank you for holding a second Charity Christmas Ladies Night, which was wonderfully supported by the members of Cyclist Lodge LOI and raising £5,000 in aid of AADC Research.
Once again, thank you so much to all those individuals and organisations that have supported our cause with their generous donations during 2009.
What’s happening in 2010...?
Our first step up this year, which we are thrilled about, is a new office move to Warlingham in Surrey, which also incorporates additional facilities, enabling us to open our first unique charity shop, namely ‘e-Bears Attic’! ‘Fabulous only’ donations from the UK and around the world are already coming in fast and furious as we spread the word about the new venture! Although the official opening date is not until early March, there is already a lot of necessary, behind-the-scenes activity going on beforehand in preparation for the shop’s exciting ‘debut’ opening. Further details will of course be on our website nearer the time, but we can confirm that our delightful patron Gabrielle, ‘recording artist supreme’, will be opening ‘the flagship store’ on the chosen day!
We are also currently organising 5 AADC fundraising walking/running events which are to take place in Spring and Summer of 2010 - one in the UK, one in Ireland and three in the USA.
Nancy Bruno, mum to Sydney and Delaini (AADC twins in Florida), with the help of the girls’ aunts Annette & Rita in Georgia, and also the girls’ cousin Marice in New Jersey, will be organizing these events. Fundraising pages are already in place on www.razoo.com (enter ‘aadc’ in to the non-profit search engine) where you can pledge your support. If you would like to take part in these walks and create your own fundraising page simply contact Nancy direct by emailing her at nbruno99@yahoo.com. More information on the UK and Ireland walks to follow.
Special note for the diaries: Our 2010 Charity Gala Ball will be held in November...so please keep checking the website www.aadcgalaball.org for up to date information on ticket availability and the evening’s exciting itinerary.
But another unique activity has already whirled in with the New Year! In early January, just last week, we were highly delighted to welcome Mr Hideo Nakamura, Producer of Seventh Sense Productions Inc from Japan, who made a request to come to the UK to produce a programme highlighting the effects of AADC upon Jake, and observe the coping mechanism primed for a typical week for him and his family. Filming took place at home and also in school at St Giles. We were also happy to offer extensive detailed medical information during a filmed meeting with Simon Heales, Professor of Clinical Chemistry at Great Ormond Street Hospital London, relating to relevant research, progress and treatments. Mr Nakamura has since returned to Japan in the last few days, hopefully laden with wide-ranging factual events for their production; despite the unusual recent snowy weather hindering their efforts with flights, cars and general setup operations. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the end result (albeit on Japanese TV) in early March and sincerely hope that Jake’s personal involvement in the production will mean helping all diagnosed children, not only in Japan but all over the world.
We’re very much looking forward to you joining us for another action packed 2010 with our first target/challenge of the year set to raise a healthy £40,000 (in part of a £200,000 total) which will be specifically assigned to a 3 year PhD project using pluripotent stem cells...more on this on our website soon.
As always we are hopeful that our children will stay healthy, comfortable and contented during 2010 as we continue our search for improved treatments or, better still of course, a complete cure!
